Pilgrimage Brings the Dharma Into Lived Experience
Lord Buddha Shakyamuni, Padmasambhava, and masters of many traditions have taught that pilgrimage is a profound means of purification and spiritual illumination. For Western practitioners especially, because we do not live a Buddhist culture, we risk understanding the Dharma only intellectually, without being exposed to it as a way of living.
Central Tibet
These pilgrimages include Dudjom’s Rinpoche’s seat and hermitages in southeastern Tibet, the historical foundations in Lhasa, Samye/Chimphu, Mindroling, and more.
Eastern Tibet
Eastern Tibet is home to several of the Six Mother Monasteries of the Nyingma tradition. Spread across Kham, Amdo, and Golok, this is where the Nyingma and Dzogchen traditions continue to flourish today.
